Alpine Intro to Trees & Steeps

Description:

Ready to take your skiing beyond the groomers? This course is designed for alpine skiers looking to explore the fundamentals of skiing in challenging terrain, including trees, steeps, and off-piste conditions. The focus will be on tactics for managing terrain safely and confidently, movement patterns that support short-radius turns and speed control, and how to read terrain and snow conditions. Participants should be confident parallel skiers on blue and black terrain and ready to step into more challenging environments.

 

Learning Experiences:

Specific activities will vary depending on the group’s needs and environmental conditions and typically include:

  • Guided free skiing with feedback and reflection
  • Terrain selection and line choice discussions
  • Drills to promote agility and tactical versatility
  • Group discussions on safety, etiquette, and trees/steeps skiing fundamentals

 

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, successful participants will be able to:

  • Identify tactics for controlling speed and line in ungroomed or steep terrain
  • Understand and apply safety practices when skiing trees and steeps
  • Recognize how terrain influences turn shape and tactics
  • Demonstrate appropriate movements and tactics for skiing short-radius turns and managing variable snow conditions

Discipline Level I Certified
