"First off, I want to say that I have made very few athletic achievements in my life. I didn't grow up in a very active family, and definitely not near any snow. Getting my Level 2 Snowboard certification means more to me than most achievements in my life because it proved I could do something that I honestly didn't think was for me. My scholarship helped me achieve the dream of my L2 certification that has been 6 years (as a part time instructor) and one exam failure in the making. It is easily my greatest athletic achievement of my life time and I wear my silver pin and hang my certificate up on my wall with pride. I hope I can be an example to other girls without athletic backgrounds so that they know they can do it too! Thank you PSIA/AASI for the scholarship opportunity that helped me achieve a dream."

"The past couple years caretaking for my grandmother limited my time and ability to work extra hours, thus I couldn't financially afford and/or take the time to attend courses to keep my PSIA certification active; the scholarship I was awarded allowed me to immerse myself, with my peers, in two days of bliss skiing with a great group of people. The camaraderie of the group was the social experience I had been missing, and their positive encouragement pushed me comfortably beyond my abilities. I learned not only a lot about my personal skiing (which had diminished due to a lack of practice), but also about accepting my weaknesses and creating a plan to overcome them.
