Children’s Specialist 2 College @ Eastern Academy

Looking for an early season opportunity to brush-up your skills, surrounded by like-minded pros? Ready to be inspired by outstanding leaders and discover new tools and ideas? Combined with Summit Academy and colleges, Eastern Academy gathers over 500 instructors, sponsors and leaders for five days of snowsports, education and camaraderie. Experience the biggest PSIA-AASI event in the East, if not the country!

The CS2 College is designed to help aspiring Children’s Specialist (CS) candidates achieve their goals. There will be three days of CS Prep exploring Learning Connection skills expected of CS candidates, followed by a two-day CS2 assessment at the end of the week. You will have opportunities to engage in guided practice with assessment activities and receive personal feedback prior to taking the CS2.

Children’s Specialist 2 will continue building on the instructor’s knowledge and skills from the Children’s Specialist 1. The CS1 course is a suggested prerequisite for the CS2 course. The course focuses on the specifics of child development for young learners as they progress through the Beginner/Novice to Advanced Zones. Participants will integrate their technical understanding of the CAP model with movement analysis and teaching activities for children in the Intermediate and Advanced Zones.

This is a multidisciplinary course with the possibility of mixed groups (i.e. alpine, snowboard and telemark participants in the same group).

Requirements:

  • Participants must be Level II or Level III Certified
  • Must complete the CS2 Workbook & Quiz prior to registering for the on-snow course*
  • Participants must score 80% or higher on an online quiz.
  • Must be an active participant in the course.
  • Must submit a completed workbook at the event.
  • Must attain a passing score from the clinician based on the participant’s demonstrated understanding, teaching, movement analysis and knowledge of teaching children.

On-snow activities are complemented by social happenings, including a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres party on Thursday, indoor presentations and more.

* The CS2 Workbook & Quiz can be found on the National LMS Website. Once you are logged in, go to My Account, and then My Learning, to see the content you already have access to. If you haven’t done so already, you will need to complete a “purchase” process to access the CS2 Workbook. As you’re working on your workbook, please pay special attention to the instructions on how to save it so that you can come back and continue your work. When you are finished, click when prompted to download the PDF version, and print out the workbook to bring it with you to your event. Handwritten submissions will not be accepted. A completed workbook is a requirement to attain the CS2.

Please complete the workbook as soon as you can as it can take some time. Some questions specifically reference information in the Teaching Children Snowsports manual and the Children’s Instruction Manual. The CS2 Workbook is free.
