Snowboard Level I Prep – 3 Day

Description:

Preparing for your Snowboard Level I Assessment? This three-day event is designed to help candidates build confidence and familiarity with the assessment process while developing the knowledge and skills expected of a Level I instructor working in the beginner/novice zone. It is required for candidates who are not currently affiliated with a snowsports school and is also an excellent opportunity to supplement the training and mentoring available through a snowsports school while gaining additional perspective from PSIA-AASI Education Staff.

This event provides expanded opportunities for guided practice, individualized coaching, movement analysis, teaching application, and reflection, allowing participants more time to build confidence and refine their understanding before attending the Snowboard Level I Assessment.

Participants should arrive prepared to be on snow for three days and able to ride safely on all green and blue terrain.

Learning Experiences:

Specific activities will vary depending on the group’s needs and environmental conditions and typically include:

  • A review of the PSIA-AASI Level I standard, associated Performance Guides and Assessment Forms.
  • Developing proficiency in the Riding Assessment Activities, practicing accurate self-assessment, and engaging in peer movement analysis.
  • Exploring strategies for collaborative, student-centered learning environments through meaningful verbal and non-verbal communication, emotion-aware feedback, and positive group dynamics.
  • Practicing the Assess & Plan, Implement, and Reflect & Review phases of lessons in the beginner zone through group, paired, and individual teaching activities.
  • Participating in group and individual activities that strengthen skills across the full Learning Connection Model in preparation for Level I Assessment.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this event, successful participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate greater confidence performing activities commonly encountered during the Snowboard Level I Assessment.
