Following are the different types of scholarships available in the WINTER:

Promising Snow Pro Scholarship - Nomination

The Promising Snow Pro Scholarship Fund was created to help Snowsports Directors to support the development of their staff members who demonstrate the skills and aptitude for a promising future in snowsports. Each year, the scholarship provides awards for instructors to participate in Level I assessments. * Promising Snowsports Instructors must be nominated by their Snowsports School Director; nominations from other staff will not be accepted.

Snowsports School Directors can submit a Promising Snow Pro nomination here.

Member Reinstatement Scholarship - Nomination

The Eastern Member Reinstatement Scholarship provides a lapsed member with up to $1000 to help pay for reinstatement fees, make-up events, and other costs.

Are you, or is someone on your staff, a lapsed PSIA-AASI member who is, or could, play a vital role in your organization as a trainer or supervisor? Or do they have potential to obtain higher levels of certification or earn a position on our education staff? If so, the new Reinstatement Scholarship may be just the pathway to help them to get back into PSIA-AASI.

Eastern Member School Scholarship - Application

The Eastern Member School Scholarship provides snowsports schools with up to $1000 to support their instructors in attending Eastern Region clinics or assessments.

The Eastern Region recognizes the important role our resorts serve in introducing people to our beloved sport. The purpose of this scholarship is to support snowsports schools who may not have trainers or easy access to PSIA-AASI Education Staff.

By sending staff members to PSIA-AASI Eastern Region events or bringing Eastern Region Education staff to their resort to provide additional Member School Training Days, scholarship winners can use funds to help develop their staff, inspire future leaders, and create more exceptional experiences for their guests.

Alpine Futures Camp - Nomination

The Alpine Futures Camp is a two-day clinic designed to help inspire and train potential future Education Staff Members.  This two-day camp will be coached by the Head Dev Team Coach, Dave Capron.  The registration fee for the camp is $0.00.  The participants will only need to cover their travel, food and lodging costs.  The Rick Metcalf Scholarship Fund is paying all of the coaching fees for the event. The camp is tentatively scheduled at Elk Mountain, on February 8 & 9. Participants will earn 12 CEUs for participating in the camp.

Snowsports School Directors can get more information and submit an Alpine Futures Camp nomination here.

William Hetrick Editorial Scholarship

The William Hetrick Editorial Scholarship was created in June of 2011 to provide a long-term legacy for Bill Hetrick and recognize his passion for both snowsports and writing about snowsports and the mountain experience. It will be an annual program that awards education “dollars” that recipients may use to register for PSIA-AASI education events. The Hetrick scholarships are awarded to contributors to the SnowPro as well as those who provide time and talent to educational writing projects such as manual updates and online course development.

Russell Fleming Scholarship for Racial Diversity in Snowsports Education

At the 2019 Pro Jam Banquet, the creation of the Russell Fleming Memorial Scholarship to Support Diversity in Snowsports Education was announced. Five scholarships are available to members of color to attend professional development events or assessments in the Eastern Region.

James K. Kapp Telemark Scholarship Fund

Longtime Member James Kapp was a fixture at Seven Springs, PA for more than 30 years and was an accomplished PSIA-AASI member. In the spring of 2021, the Eastern Board officially recognized and affirmed the request by the Estate of James Kapp to set up the James K. Kapp Telemark Scholarship Fund.
