Course Description:

Prerequisites:

  • Must be a member of PSIA-AASI
  • Must complete the PSIA-AASI Level I eLearning Course prior to registering.
  • If you are not currently working in a snowsports school, you must complete a PSIA-AASI on-snow Level I Prep event BEFORE you register for the level I assessment. Or you can register for a 5-Day Level I College which includes both the prep course and the assessment.

The Certified Level I process consists of an assessment of basic skiing skills, teaching skills, and professional knowledge (which refers to technical and mechanical knowledge as well as to knowledge of guest service, PSIA, the ski industry, and risk management). Candidates should be prepared to lead the group through some basic ski instruction scenarios.

Please refer to the Alpine Assessment Guide and reference information for complete details at https://easternsnowpros.org/education/alpine/

We highly recommend reviewing the National Standards.

We have added an optional Alpine Intro to Level I Webinar designed to help instructors prepare for the Level I assessment! With the introduction of the Learning Connection Model and the Unified Assessment Form, the Level I assessment has evolved significantly. Held on the evening of the third Wednesday of each month, starting in November, this two-hour webinar is just the thing you’ll need to know how to prepare for the assessment. You’ll go over the format, review the Unified Assessment Form, get an introduction to the Learning Connection Model and the Skiing, Teaching and People Skills, talk through some samples of the skiing activities in which you will be assessed, and have plenty of time to ask questions. Please join us for this informative webinar and know before you go! You can register for this optional webinar at https://easternsnowpros.org/education/webinars/alpine-intro-to-level-i-webinars/.

It is also highly recommended you complete the free online “Course for New Instructors.” And please remember to complete the “Alpine Level I eLearning” course before you register for the Alpine Level I Assessment. Both of these courses are free online at https://lms.thesnowpros.org/lms-courses/.
