Course Description:
Are you leading staff training at your resort, or looking to break into that crew? Want to sharpen your understanding of first tier assessments? Become familiar with how the Fundamentals apply in the assessment environment with the Eastern Trainer Academy. Through an exploration of the National Standards, you will gain insights into how to best lead others through training for success.
This academy offers three tracks–Alpine, Children’s Focus, and Snowboard–to address the unique needs of trainers across disciplines. Each track will connect the National Standards, Learning Connection Model, and discipline-specific fundamentals with practical strategies for running effective training sessions at your resort.
Learning Experiences:
Specific activities will vary depending on the group’s needs and environmental conditions and typically include:
• Guided exploration of the National Standards with application to staff training
• On-snow activities focused on connecting fundamentals to certification assessment activities
• Small-group discussions on how to structure staff clinics at the resort level
• Practice leading peers through short training segments with feedback
• Movement analysis activities relevant to Level I or CS1 performance
• Collaborative problem-solving for training challenges
• Q&A opportunities with experienced examiners and clinician leaders
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, successful participants will be able to:
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Alpine, Snowboard, or Children’s Specialist National Standards at Level I or CS1
• Identify key applications of discipline-specific fundamentals in the assessment environment
• Apply the Learning Connection Model to support staff training experiences that develop improved technical, teaching, and people skills
• Recognize common challenges in training and apply strategies for creating successful learning environments
Prerequisite(s): Discipline Level II Certified
Recommended Learning Resources: Suggested reading:
• PSIA-AASI Teaching Snowsports Manual
• Review Technical Manual relevant to the track selected
Equipment/Materials Needed: • Downhill equipment relevant to the selected track; those participating in the Children’s Focus Track can slide on alpine, snowboard or telemark equipment, though we recommend you select the equipment you are most comfortable sliding and teaching on.
