Course Description:
Preparing for your Alpine Level I Assessment? This two-day event is designed to help candidates build confidence and familiarity with the assessment process while developing the knowledge and skills expected of a Level I instructor working in the beginner/novice zone. It is required for candidates who are not currently affiliated with a snowsports school and is also an excellent opportunity to supplement the training and mentoring available through a snowsports school while gaining additional perspective from PSIA-AASI Education Staff.
Participants should arrive prepared to be on snow for two days and able to ski safely on all green and blue terrain.
Learning Experiences:
Specific activities will vary depending on the group’s needs and environmental conditions and typically include:
• Guided exploration of the Learning Connection Model and Level I standards
• Demonstration and practice of the Alpine Fundamentals in beginner and intermediate terrain
• Teaching scenarios focused on beginner/novice students
• Movement analysis and technical discussions using the Observation, Evaluation, Prescription (OEP) process
• Individual and peer teaching activities with guided feedback
• Review of assessment format, scoring process, and candidate expectations
• Individual coaching to identify strengths and priorities for continued preparation
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this event, successful participants will be able to:
• Demonstrate greater confidence performing activities commonly encountered during the Alpine Level I Assessment.
• Understand how the Learning Connection Model supports effective lessons in the beginner/novice zone.
• Apply the Alpine Fundamentals to personal skiing performance and peer movement analysis.
• Understand the format, expectations, and assessment criteria of the Alpine Level I Assessment.
• Identify personal strengths, areas for continued development, and resources to guide ongoing preparation for certification.

Equipment/Materials Needed:
Personal alpine equipment suitable for all-mountain green and blue terrain.

To transfer your registration to a different event, please cancel this registration and register for the new event.
If you need to cancel from an Eastern event:
- Up to 3 weeks prior to the event start: Full refund of the cost of your event registration.
- Less than 3 weeks prior to the event start: 50% refund of the cost of your event registration.
- Less than one week prior to the start date and time of your event, event registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Certain premier regional and national events follow a cancellation policy different from the standard cancellation policy outlined above. Please refer to those events directly for the applicable event cancellation policies.
If you need to cancel an Eastern premier event (an event that is 4 or more days):
- Email or call us at (518) 452-6095, as member portal cancelation is not available for premier events.
- Up to 3 weeks prior to the event start: Full refund of the cost of your event registration.
- Less than 3 weeks prior to the event start: 50% refund of the cost of your event registration.
- IF YOU DO NOT SHOW AT EVENT REGISTRATION AND DO NOT CONTACT US by 4:30pm on last business day before the event: No refund.
Please note that no refunds will be issued for events once attended. We encourage members to review event details carefully before registering to ensure a satisfactory experience. Extenuating circumstances (medical or bereavement) will be considered for a refund if notification is given at the earliest opportunity, and the request is received within one week after the start of the event.
Our goal is to ensure all events run as scheduled; however, there are times, with very little notice, that we may have to cancel or move an event due to factors beyond our control. We encourage you to consider this possibility when making travel plans.
