Course Description:

Looking for an early season opportunity to brush-up your skills, surrounded by like-minded pros? Ready to be inspired by outstanding leaders and discover new tools and ideas? Combined with Master’s Academy and certification/accreditation colleges, Snow Pro Jam gathers over 500 instructors, sponsors and leaders for five days of snowsports, education and camaraderie. Experience the biggest PSIA-AASI event in the East, if not the country!

The CS1 College is designed to help aspiring Children’s Specialist (CS) candidates achieve their goals. There will be three days of CS Prep exploring the skills of the Learning Connection Model expected of CS candidates, followed by a two-day CS1 assessment at the end of the week. You will have opportunities to engage in guided practice with assessment activities and receive personal feedback prior to taking the CS1.

Children’s Specialist 1 is the entry-level children’s assessment course for PSIA-AASI and it is designed for instructors embarking on the journey toward mastery of the art of children’s snowsports instruction. The course includes:

  • Online e-Learning course (estimated at 1 – 2 hours to complete, required before registering for the on-snow portion)
  • Skiing/riding and teaching scenarios
  • Technical discussions regarding how children develop, learn, and progress in the beginner/novice to intermediate zones.
  • Assessment of people, teaching, and technical skills relating to children’s instruction on snow

Requirements:

  • Participants must be Level I Certified and a current member.
  • Must complete the online CS1 e-Learning course prior to registering for the course.*
  • Must be an active participant in the course.
  • Must contribute at the event during discussions.
  • Must attain a passing score from clinician based on the participant’s demonstrated understanding, teaching, movement analysis and knowledge of teaching children.

This is a multidisciplinary course with the possibility of mixed groups (i.e. alpine, snowboard and telemark participants in the same group).

On-snow activities are complemented by social happenings, including a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres party on Thursday, indoor presentations and more. Whether this is your first year at “Pro Jam” or you are a seasoned veteran, this is bound to be a week to remember.

Guests of registered participants can attend select portions of the event by purchasing a “Social Package.” This package will include access to the Thursday Cocktail Party, indoor presentations, and the optional Wednesday afternoon session (separate groups will be formed). Further details are forthcoming, and registration options will be sent to participants in the weeks leading up to the event.

* The CS1 e-Learning Review course is available on the National LMS Website free of charge. Once you are logged in, go to My Account, and then My Learning, to see the content you already have access to. If you haven’t done so already, you will need to complete a “purchase” process to access the CS1 e-Learning course. Some parts of the course will specifically reference information in the Teaching Children Snowsports manual and the Children’s Instruction Manual, so it is suggested to have a copy nearby.

For more information about the Children’s Specialist Standards, Performance Guide, and Assessment Forms, go to the PSIA-AASI Certification Resources.
