Course Description:

The Adaptive Alpine Level I assessment is a three-day program in which candidates will be evaluated. An assessment of the candidate’s ability to meet the Level I National Standard will be made. Candidates should be prepared to lead the group through some basic ski instruction scenarios. The clinician will coach and assess each candidate’s personal skiing skills, teaching skills, and professional knowledge encompassing technical, mechanical, disability understanding including causes and effects and use of adaptive equipment. Candidates will be evaluated on medication knowledge; knowledge of guest services, safety, and risk management; and various guest populations such as children, seniors, and adults. It is expected that candidates will be able to show basic competence and knowledge in all these areas. In addition, it is expected that candidates will be able to demonstrate a significant level of competency with the skiing and teaching tasks listed specifically for assessment at a Level I event. Please refer to the Alpine and Adaptive Assessment Guides and reference information for complete details at https://easternsnowpros.org/education/adaptive/. We highly recommend reviewing the National Standards.

All candidates are required to complete the online Alpine component Level I eLearning course as well as the Adaptive Professional Knowledge exam for the discipline you are being evaluated in. These must be completed prior to registering for the on-snow evaluation. Successful candidates will receive both Alpine Level I Certification as well as Adaptive Level I Certification.
