BEGINNER MOVEMENTS:

Moving on telemark gear and linking telemark turns with speed control

In our first section we breakdown the beginner from first time on tele skis to linking turns on novice terrain. There are progressions that can be followed chronologically, activities and drills to use individually and a story line of how a new telemarker progresses. We showcase a more contemporary approach by creating movements of both legs being involved equally in the turns. A lot of what is in this section can also be taught to alpine skiers by leaving out the tele stance. So this is a very comprehensive section and the base for intermediate and advanced telemarking.

INTERMEDIATE MOVEMENTS:

Shaping telemark turns and utilization of both skis tilting, steering and pressuring.

Our second segment, Intermediate Movements, again takes you through a story line from a novice stage to a skier who is able to use the skis more as a tool. Weight distribution, inside leg steering, flowing smoothly from one turn to the next, pole usage and learning how to make short, medium and long turns are all elements we show how to develop with exercises and activities. The real key here that is emphasized is how to release the skis edges and moving into the direction of the new turn fluidly and using both skis equally but a bit differently. This is the stage where certain habits or one type of move is used for the skier’s entire career. We try to build a base so that you can change timing, duration, intensity and amount of each of the skills and components that make up a telemark turn.

ADVANCED MOVEMENTS:

Carving, bumps, powder, hard snow, cut up snow are all reviewed with tactics and technique tips on how to approach terrain and snow conditions.

Our third segment focuses on the advanced telemark skier. By having a smooth lead change, early release of the lead leg into the turn with an active inside leg and adding the appropriate amount of body tension, counter and angulation that we learned in the Intermediate section the skier is ready to handle all terrain and conditions. We then add tactics according to terrain and conditions and how you can alter, enhance or eliminate certain elements of creating a telemark turn according to what lies below you. This is a fun section with a lot of good skiing and challenging conditions.

TIPS FROM THE STAFF:

IMG_2207

It is not easy filming these educational materials, nor is it fun sometimes to be explaining and showing your teaching ability to a movie camera. It may be below freezing, rotten spring snow, you may demonstrate wrong and have to do it over and you may garble your words. Fortunately, our trained staff dug their heels in and produced a series of short info-mercials for you to listen to that may help you with some common telemark tips to fix your students. There are 9 tips click each for a separate one:
